Glad Tidings For The Believers
A Khutbah delivered at Masjid al-Sunnah, Manchester (UK)

[As for what follows, then any mistakes are from myself (in the transcribing of the Khutbah) and not from the Khateeb!]
All praise is due to Allaah. We praise Him. We seek his aid and we ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allaah from the evils of ourselves and the evils of our actions. Whomever Allaah guides no one can misguide him and whomever Allaah misguides none can guide him. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped except Allaah alone. He has no partners. And I bear witness that Muhammad Ibn Abdullah is his Slave and Messenger.
“O you who believe! Fear Allaah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islaam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allaah.”
“O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allaah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allaah is Ever an All Watcher over you.”
“O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allaah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the Hell-fire and made to enter Paradise).”
The best speech is the Book of Allaah and the best guidance is that of Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). The worst things in the religion are the newly invented matters. And all the newly invented matters are innovation and all innovation is misguidance. And all misguidance and its people are in the Hellfire.
When we look at the state of the Muslim Ummah today, many of us are likely to fall into despair and many of us are likely to fear that the Muslim Ummah will never regain honour and dignity, whereas the true believers, they never lose hope in the promise of Allaah. The true believers remember what Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) says in the Qur’aan:
“Certainly no one despairs of Allaah’s Mercy, except the people who disbelieve.” [Yusuf (12):87]
And He (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) says:
“They (the disbelievers, the Jews and the Christians) want to extinguish Allaah’s Light (with which Muhammad sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam has bee sent – Islaamic Monotheism) with their mouths, but Allaah will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the Kafirun (disbelievers) hate (it).” [At-Tawbah (9):32]
He (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) is the One who sent His Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) with guidance and with the religion of truth to make it prevail over all the other religions, even though the disbelievers hate it.
Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) says in the Qur’aan and listen ‘O’ Muslim, Listen to the promise from the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth:
“Allaah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islaam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah).” [An-Nur (24):55]
This is a promise from Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) to the believers. So how can despair find its way into the hearts of the Muslims? The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Verily, Allaah gathered up the earth for me, so that I saw its east and its west. Indeed the dominion of my Ummah will reach what was gathered up for me, from it.” [Saheeh Muslim]
And in another Hadeeth the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“This matter (Islaam) will keep spreading as far as the night and the day reach, until Allaah will not leave a dwelling of brick or fur, but will make this religion enter it, while bringing might to a mighty person (a Muslim) and humiliation to a disgraced person (who rejects Islaam).” [Ahmed]
So why do we despair today when we see the kuffar having power over the earth? When we see the Muslims being humiliated and we see the Muslims are being targeted and attacked wherever they are?
And don’t forget, this humiliation, we brought it forth to our Ummah by our deeds! We are the cause. We are the reason behind this humiliation! But dignity and honour will come back to the Muslim Ummah.
But it will come to whom? To the True Believers!
The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) at the hardest times and the darkest moments, when the Muslims were so weak and the Muslims were so targeted by the kuffar, he (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) would give them glad tidings of honour being given to the Muslim Ummah.
At the time of Al Khandaq when the Muslims dug the trench around Al Medina to protect themselves as the kuffar gathered to wipe out the Muslims, to annihilate the Muslims completely from the face of the Earth. The Muslims dug a trench around Al Medina to protect themselves. One of the companions, Al-Baraa Ibn Aazib (radiyallaahu anhu) narrates:
“When it was the day of Al Khandaq we came across a big rock that we could not break. So we called The Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and we complained to him about it. So The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) took a spade and hit that rock and he cut part of it.”
And at that moment, the Muslims were so weak, to the extent that not one of them could go and answer the call of nature. They were scared and Allaa (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) describes them in the Qur’aan with a description that shows the end of fear that a man can reach when He tells them:
“When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you
were harbouring doubts about Allaah.” [Al-Ahzaab (33):10]
He was talking about the Companions, the best of generations, the best of people. They started to have doubts about the promise of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala). So at that time of weakness the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) hit that rock and he shouted:
“Allaahu Akbar! I have been granted the keys of Ash-Sham. I have been granted the keys of the dominion over the Romans”
the strongest power on the earth at that time. And the Muslims were the weakest nation at that time. And The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) was giving the Companions glad tidings of reigning over the thrones of the strongest power. Then he hit the rock again and he cut another part of it. Then he said:
“Allaahu Akbar! I have been granted the keys of Persia. Wallaah (By Allaah), I can see the palace of Al Mada’en – their capital. I can see the palace of Al Mada’en from my place here.”
Then he hit it a third time and the rock was shattered. Then the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Allaahu Akbar! I have been granted the keys to Al Yemen. Wallaah, I can see the gates of San’aa from my place here.”
So when the Muslims were weak and scared to death, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) would give them glad tidings of the Muslims having honour, having dominion over the earth.
So why should we despair today? Why should we despair when Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) promises us to have power over the earth? When the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) tells us that this religion will prevail over the earth.
Then the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) made hijrah and ran away from Mecca because the kuffar wanted to kill him. So, Souraq Ibn Maalik, one person, followed him and he was about to catch up to the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) but the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) turned back to him and said:
“Go back and I promise you the golden bracelets from Kisra”
the King of Persia at that time. A man who was fleeing from the kuffar that wanted to kill him. He was running away, he had no power, no people to protect him. And the Companion was about to catch the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and at that time of weakness the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) told him:
“Go back and I will grant you the golden bracelets of Kisra”
the strongest king at that time.
This is the Muslims hope in the promise of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala). This is how every one of us should be. This is how we should be today, Oh Muslims!
So honour and dignity are promised to this religion no matter how strong the kuffar become! No matter how we see them prevail over the earth, Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala) will bring them to destruction and give honour to the true servants of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’ala). It was narrated from Abu Qabillah who said:
”We were with ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al ‘Aas and he was asked which city will be conquered first Constantinople or Rome? So ‘Abdullah called for a sealed trunk and he took a book out from it. Then ‘Abdullah said: “Whilst we were with the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) writing, the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) was asked: “Which city will be conquered first, Constantinople or Rome?” So Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “The city of Heracilius will be conquered first” meaning Constantinople and that happened.”
The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) made it clear that Constantinople would be conquered. That really happened during the history of the Muslim Ummah at the hands of Mohammad al Fateh. The Muslims witnessed that and we are waiting for the second conquest of Rome. We believe in it! We have no doubt about it. It is a revelation that came from Allaah (Subahana Wa Ta’ala).
From a Hadeeth related by Abu Hurayrah the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Have you heard of a city, one side of it is on the sea and the other side of it is on the land?” They said, “Yes”.
So the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The hour will not come before 70,000 of the sons of the progeny of Prophet Ishaaq (alayhis-salaam) will attack this city.”
A Muslim army, which will consist of the sons of the descendents of Ishaaq (alayhis-salaam).
Who are they? They are the Romans. They are the Caucasian race. A Muslim army, 70,000 made of them will come as a Muslim army and will attack Constantinople again because it has fallen into the hands of the kuffar. They will attack it and this is a clear promise from the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) that this religion will prevail. So make sure that you will be part of it. Make sure that as Muslims if you are living in these countries that you are giving good daw’ah. That you are calling the people to Islam! Through your example, through your speech, through your manners! As Muslims this responsibility is upon us.
So he, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The hour will not come until 70,000 of the sons of Ishaaq will come to attack this city. And when they come to it they will not fight with weapons but they will say ‘Laa ilaaha illa Allaah, Allaahu Akbar!’ so the side of it which is against the sea will fall down. And they will say again ‘Laa ilaaha illa Allaah, Allaahu Akbar!’ and the side of it which is against the land will fall down. And they will say for the third time ‘Laa ilaaha illa Allaah, Allaahu Akbar!’ and they will enter it and while they are distributing the spoils or the booty someone will come and call ‘Al-Maseehud-Dajjaal, the false Messiah has come out!’ So they will leave everything and go back.”
But which Muslims will be granted this victory and this honour? Is it the people of the groups and partisanship? Are they the people of innovation? Are they those who worship the graves or call on other than Allaah? Are they the ones who split up the Muslims into groups and parties? Where can we find the answer? Where can we find it? We find it in the revelation. We find it in the Hadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) as he narrated; Hudhayfah bin Al-Yamaan reported that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Prophethood will remain amongst you for as long as Allaah wishes it to, then Allaah will lift it up when He wishes to. Afterwards, there will be a Khilaafah upon the manner of Prophethood remaining with you for as long as Allaah wishes it to. Then, Allaah will remove it up whenever He wishes to. Then there will be kingship that will be handed over from father to son. And it will remain amongst you for as long as Allaah wishes it to. And there will be tyrannical kingship and it will remain amongst you for as long as Allaah wishes it to. Then after that it will return, Khilaafah upon the manner of Prophethood.” Then the Prophet remained silent.
This is a summary of the history of the Muslim Ummah and the future that is to come. First, Prophethood, then after that, Khilaafah upon the manner of Prophethood. And it was, the Khulafa Rashideen. And after that it will become Kingship that will be handed down from father to son. And it was after the Khilaafah. Then it will become tyrannical kingship and which the Muslims are living today and they lived in the past. Then what is after that? It will return, it will return, Khilaafah upon the manner of Prophethood, a promise from the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam).
So the promise of honour and dignity being given to the Muslims will be during that era. It will be during that time of Khilaafah upon the manner of Prophethood. Khilaafah as in the time of Khulafa Rashideen which is the methodology of the Righteous Predecessors of this Ummah, the Manhaj of As Salafus-Saalih. So honour will come to this Ummah at the hands of those who follow this methodology of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions.
So if you want to be a brick in that building, hasten, hasten to follow the truth! To learn your religion! To implement it upon yourself and your family and act upon it and be upon that Manhaj. Be upon this methodology and inshaa’allaah you will be contributing to bringing honour to this Ummah. And Allaah will fulfil his promise whether we like it or not.
Subhaanaka Allaahuma wa bihamdika ashadu an laa ilaaha illa anta astagfirouka wa atoobu ilaik.
